Better Health Chiropractic South Anchorage Alaska Reception Area

Better Health Chiropractic South Anchorage Clinic's Front Desk

Directions

We’re located east of the Walmart Supercenter, just south of the Dimond Center across 88th Ave. off Old Seward Hwy., and share our building with BTY Dental and Play It Again Sports. They’re great neighbors!

Along with our flagship clinic in North Anchorage, the decision to build a second clinic off Old Stewart Hwy. to the south was really decided by the community. Some of our elderly patients needed a more convenient location, as did people with long work commutes.

Like our other locations, we’re totally outfitted to provide the full range of chiropractic care services, along with chiropractic massage therapy and physical rehabilitation modalities. From the Alaska Back Pain Protocol and chiropractic adjustments to helping you with your posture through everyday life, Better Health Chiropractic & Physical Rehab is friendly and available.

Learn more below about our resident chiropractors, services, and the specific conditions we treat. Or, take the bull by the horns and stop by if you’re close. If it’s before 4 pm, you can call and make an appointment and be seen today. See you soon!

When I woke up in the middle of the night this week in excruciating pain that shot down my leg, I thought I could ice it away or take a hot bath to relieve the pain, but it continued to get worse. By the next morning, I was getting the chills and nausea from the pain. I decided to go to the ER to get checked out (which I never do). The ER doctor said “it’s a strained muscle, give it a week then go see an orthopedic specialist.” I refused to accept that because I couldn’t stand the thought of being in so much pain for another week. I called around to many chiropractors and no one could get me in the same day. Then I called Better Health, the receptionist was warm and compassionate even before she knew she could get me in immediately. She asked which location I was closest to and got me in right away. After 45 min of intuitive examination and painless and gentle treatments 90% of my pain was gone! After I got home and rested for a couple of hours, it was gone completely. I won’t be seeing anyone else in town for chiropractic care and highly recommend them to anyone.

Better Health Chiropractic & Physical Therapy has been a great solution to my neck and back pain. Dr. Vito is very friendly and knowledgeable and makes a treatment plan that works for you, not just the cookie cutter adjustments I have had in the past. The physical therapist Melissa really knows what she is doing and always suggests different things to try at home to manage pain. Bree is an amazing massage therapist. She can locate and work out knots in a short focused time, but is more effective than long massages! Whitney at the front desk is always friendly and though billing is confusing, she always takes the time to explain things and get the paperwork you need. Everyone works well together and it is the most innovative approach to pain management I have found in Alaska.

I hurt my lower back several weeks ago and was in a great deal of pain. I could not tie my shoes without bringing tears to my eyes. The clinic was able to get me an appointment the day I called. They diagnosed the problem and gave me a rehabilitation plan the next day. Within a week I could bend over and tie my shoes with no tears (it still hurt, but the pain level was greatly diminished). The staff have been great. They are professional, friendly and show genuine concern for my recovery. There have been no issues with billing both my primary and secondary insurance companies. Highly recommended.

After over-involvement with athletic activities coupled with not paying attention to cervical spine health, as well as poor computer/iPhone posture, I injured my neck. Dr. Vito et. al. were instrumental in helping me convalesce with efficiency, quality, integrity and great support. I am confident how I would not feel as good as I do today if not for the massage, ultrasound, adjustment, traction and electrical stimulation afforded me by Dr. Vito and his colleagues. This is an excellent operation all-around- I highly recommend it! Better Health chiropractors and their assistants also imbue one with strengthening and stretching skills to also proactively avoid injuring oneself again. Kudos- and financially very straightforward and honest as well, which was very appreciated.

Dr. Vito has been amazing to both myself and my wife. She has been going to Better Health for a few years now and started just over a month ago. My back had been hurting because I work at a desk and have played contact sports my entire life. Since I have been going to Dr. Vito my neck and back pain has definitely decreased between the adjustments and the massages.

The staff are all amazing and it is definitely a very fun atmosphere, I look forward to my appointments and always leave feeling very relaxed.

I definitely have already recommended Dr. Vito to friends and family and will continue to do so.

Frequently Asked Questions about Chiropractors:

Why Should I See a Chiropractor?

Whenever possible, it’s good to see a chiropractor at least once in a while for general checkups and preventative purposes. Otherwise, most people schedule an appointment when they experience muscle or joint-related pain or have unexplained lower back pain. More recently, a big reason has to do with corrective posture measures due to work-related conditions from to construction to chronic sitting. There are plenty of reasons to come visit a Better Health Chiropractic & Physical Rehab clinic!

What Does Chiropractic for Back Pain Involve?

Well, of course, it depends on the nature of what you’re dealing with. We tend to veer away from narrow single-treatment programs. At Better Health Chiropractic we work to customize programs that incorporate elements of chiropractic care, chiropractic massage therapy, and physical rehab needed to increase your quality of life, reduce pain, and restore health. Our clinics are fully outfitted to provide a wide range of services targeting lower back pain and related issues.

What Does Joint Cracking Mean in Chiropractic Adjustments/Treatment?

This is such a great question. It’s shocking how popular online back cracking videos are. Just watching chiropractors use spinal decompression and slight force to produce those cracks feels good! In these videos, the chiropractor is working to realign bones and give the patient a fuller range of motion. Sometimes thought of as ‘un-sticking’ joints, this process causes a cavitation (the pop!), which is a release of gas. Your joints produce gas processing nutrients and lubricant fluid. Joints can get stuck, causing pressure to build. When a chiropractic adjustment is performed the tension is released. This also allows the lubricant to return to the joint – relief!

What Education, Certifications, and Licensing Should a Chiropractor Have?

The basic roadmap goes like this, but it can vary by state:

  1. Get a Bachelor’s degree, completing at least 90 credit hours that satisfy prereqs prior to chiropractic school. These majors are going to revolve around biology, chemistry, physics, etc., rather than liberal arts or other coursework.
  2. Get a Doctorate of Chiropractic, or a D.C., from a handful of specialized colleges located throughout the United States. Most include internship or mentorship programs.
  3. Pass a recognized certification exam and obtain the official licensing to practice chiropractic care in the chosen state.
  4. Chiropractors will typically choose a specialty early on, from sports-related to general care. BHC&PR became the first in Alaska to introduce the DRS System and the Alaska Back Pain Protocol, but most chiropractors have their own philosophies and approaches.
  5. Chiropractic physicians must complete ongoing education (lectures, workshops, classes, etc.) to maintain updated and legal licensure, or study another discipline to incorporate it into their practices.

What is Vertebral Subluxation?

Okay, so you understand that your brain and central nervous system use your spine to send nerve signals (communicate) and control your body. Well, when a vertebra gets stuck or there is some kind of misalignment that affects this nerve communication between brain and body, that’s a subluxation. The body responds to these with an assortment of inflammation, muscle spasms, tightening, and so forth which impacts the surrounding nerves. Chiropractors use adjustment techniques to correct them and restore proper communication.

Do Children Need Chiropractic Care?

Sure! Pediatric chiropractic care is increasingly popular here in ‘the West’ as more and more children are benefitting greatly from chiropractic screenings to maintain optimal spinal or neuromuscular balance. What, you don’t think babies have a rough time during birth? You don’t think kids can injure their backs or develop bad habits in their youth? How about the ways chiropractic care or chiropractic massage can benefit them in school or in sports? If you’re curious, feel free to contact our nearest clinic and we’ll fill you in on the specific benefits for your family’s needs.

Difference: Chiropractor vs. Massage Therapist

There are big differences between a chiropractor and a general massage therapist. From a substantial difference in schooling to the variations in the scope of each of the two professions. Again, chiropractic care offers treatments that can address a wide variety of medical conditions having to do with the spine/joints/central nervous system, while general massage therapy works with the musculature.
