Find relief and heal quicker by using your body’s own Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP).
If you’re suffering from the pain of osteoarthritis and you can’t find a solution, minimally invasive PRP injections could help you with pain relief and joint function.
PRP injections have also been shown to speed healing and reduce pain for injuries to muscles, tendons, ligaments, and even joints.
So whether it’s knee pain, elbow pain, shoulder pain, or a muscle injury, minimally invasive Platelet-Rich Plasma injections offered by Better Health Alaska Chiropractors can help!
They can speed healing and provide other benefits for those with:
- Injuries to the tendons, muscles, ligaments, or joints.
- Osteoarthritis
- Those who’ve recently undergone surgery
Minimally invasive PRP Injections are a big part of our non-narcotic and non-surgical treatment options.

What is Platelet-Rich Plasma?
Platelet-Rich Plasma is produced from a patient’s blood using a centrifuge to separate the PRP from the whole blood. Essentially, it contains proteins and factors that promote growth, blood clotting, and healing.
Since PRP is produced from the patient’s own body, it won’t cause adverse effects that can happen when a foreign substance is injected. The extracted PRP is injected back into the body in a strategic area to promote pain relief and healing. Such a high concentration of platelets injected into the injured area can help the body heal.
How Are Minimally Invasive PRP Injections Administered?
Minimally invasive PRP injections are very safe, and the process is quick.
Our Nurse Practitioner will draw a small amount of blood from you and place it in a centrifuge. The centrifuge will then spin the blood around at a high rate of speed for about ten to fifteen minutes.
This process separates the platelet-rich plasma from the other blood components. Our NP will then take that separated PRP and inject it into the specific area or areas that are injured or suffering from osteoarthritis.
How Does PRP Promote Healing?
Minimally Invasive PRP Injections have shown excellent results for a number of conditions.
The high concentration of platelets injected into the affected area can help speed growth, reduce pain, and improve healing time.
PRP is used for:
- Arthritis
- Joint Pain
- Tendon Injuries
- Muscle Injuries
- Ligament Injuries
- Osteoarthritis
- Acute Injuries
- Post-Surgery Healing
This is made possible by the proteins contained in the platelet structures. PRP includes six different growth factors, signal proteins, and other proteins. When an injury happens, these platelets are among the first to respond in order to help prevent bleeding and start the healing process. So by extracting them from the body, concentrating them, and injecting them into the injured area, we can help jumpstart the healing process.
What Studies Say About Minimally Invasive PRP Injections?
PRP has been deemed an effective treatment for the management of osteoarthritis in all stages. Regular injections have been shown to reduce pain and improve movement in osteoarthritic joints, helping people stay active and enjoy life with less pain.
One 2015 study found that minimally invasive PRP injections were better for those with osteoarthritis of the knee than both hyaluronic acid injections and placebo injections. The authors of the study found that benefits seen in pain levels and joint function lasted up to twelve months.
A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial found similar benefits for those with knee osteoarthritis. The authors of the study found that just three minimally invasive PRP injections showed significant results for those patients when compared to just one injection or the placebo.
A 2014 study comparing PRP injections and a rehab program to only a rehab program showed promising results. For hamstring injuries, the PRP and rehab group experienced significantly less pain and faster healing than the rehab-only group.
A 2018 systematic review found five randomized controlled trials that studied the effects of PRP injections on acute muscle injury. The studies compared conservative care to minimally invasive PRP injections, finding that the athletes who had PRP injections were able to return to play significantly sooner than those with only conservative care.
A 2011 systematic review found 24 papers with relevant inclusion criteria. From these 24 papers, the review found that the use of PRP gel on wounds showed significant improvements in healing time compared to control groups. This is why PRP is often used for general healing purposes and for post-surgical healing.
