5 Tips on How to Avoid Being a Couch Potato and Get More Done!

It seems as though, despite all of our modern-day time saving devices, we are still busy as heck. Have you found that, even though you are trying to eat right and squeeze in some time for exercise, you simply can’t get through that to-do list?

You might have tried to get a little pick me up from a big cup of coffee, a soda, or even one of those energy drinks and while they might help for a few hours, they only end up leaving you even more exhausted than you started!

You aren’t alone in this either. Whether you are simply looking for more energy, so you can get through your day or if you have difficulties because of a health problem, we have a few tips that can make getting up off of the couch a little bit easier.

Tip #1-Boost Your Central Nervous System

As you probably remember from your high school biology class, your central nervous system runs from your brain, down through the spine, and then out towards every single organ and part of the body. Think of your central nervous system like a big garden hose. You know what happens when there is a kink in the hose, right? No matter how much force you turn the faucet, you can get little or nothing at the other end of the hose.

Your central nervous system works in a similar manner. Your brain can send signals to the organs or to the moving parts of the body, but when there is a “kink” in your spine or other joints, signals simply aren’t being sent or received very well.

When there is pressure on the nerves, the messages sent from your brain to your body will slow down. You don’t think as quickly, and you don’t react as fast. This includes not just your physical reactions, but your metabolism as well. A slow metabolism means a sluggish, slow feeling that makes you want to curl up with Netflix, not do curls at the gym. When our spines work well, everything else does too!

Regular chiropractic adjustments can keep all the kinks out of that proverbial garden hose. When your cells and organs are sending and receiving electrical signals like they should, you can get the full force of the energy that your body has stored!

Tip #2-Pain Management

If you are feeling pain for whatever reason, you are using a great deal of energy just dealing with it. Whether you are experiencing joint pain, chronic inflammation, stiff muscles, or the aftereffects of a car accident or other type of accident, pain is absolutely exhausting! No wonder you just want to flop on the couch!

If you could eliminate or at least reduce those pain levels, you would have more energy to deal with your everyday tasks. Chiropractic care has been proven to help reduce pain by correcting the subluxations (misalignments) of the spine and other joints. Less pain means more energy spent on the things you want to do, rather than dealing with chronic or long-term pain.

Can chiropractic help arthritis? For those who might be dealing with the pain of arthritis, chiropractic care can help to manage your pain symptoms, lower inflammation levels and offer you an improved lifestyle with increased activity levels. Increased flexibility and range of motion is discussed in tip #3- so keep reading to see how you can not only have reduced pain but more flexibility, so you can enjoy activities that your new energy burst will give you.

Tip #3- Flexibility and Range of Motion

Are you trying to get through your day, but you are having problems with flexibility and/or a limited range of movement? It can be exhausting to try to pick up the kids or a bag of groceries and the pain in your back makes this difficult. You could also find that, while working at your job, your wrists just don’t seem to want to bend the way you need them to in order to type or write or do your tasks.

There is no denying that comprehensive chiropractic care is the best way to deal with these problems. Your chiropractor will do a complete exam and determine the best treatment option for your unique situation. In addition to adjustments, your chiropractor might suggest other physical therapy modalities that can improve your range of motion and flexibility, such as ultrasound, cold laser therapy, or even chiropractic massage.

In fact, we are going to talk more about how chiropractic massage can offer you so much more than just a “feel good” experience in tip #4. Keep reading!

Tip #4- Stress Management

Many people have far too much stress in their lives. Stress management is extremely important since unrelenting stress has been linked to an increased risk of developing health problems. Remove as much stress as possible and learn to deal with the stress you cannot change, and you will find that this alone is enough to provide you with some much-needed energy.

Stress Management

One of the best ways to do this is to not only seek out regular chiropractic care, but chiropractic massage. Massage therapy is well-known for its multitude of benefits, with stress relief being one of the biggest advantages.

Your chiropractor will direct the massage therapist as to the best type of massage for your situation, as well as discuss with the therapist any health problems you might be experiencing, problem areas, or areas that might need to be avoided.

There is very little that can reduce stress like a massage can, and when you have a chiropractic massage, you will be doubling your health efforts and improving your energy levels in one easy visit.

Tip #5-The Energy Drain

The truth is that misalignments of the spine can cause a multitude of symptoms. Generally, the most common complaint is pain; back pain, neck pain, hip pain, or pain in other parts of the body, misalignments in the spine lead to other energy sucking problems, such as headaches, difficulty with concentration, joint pain, inflammation, and others.

Speaking of inflammation, some people wonder if chiropractic adjustments cause inflammation. The answer is no, it does the opposite. What some people believe is inflammation is actually a release of toxins.

The Energy Drain

One of the reasons most people feel a bit nauseated or light headed after their first chiropractic adjustment is this release of toxins. Everyone would agree that our environments today are filled with pollution and toxins of all kinds. No matter how green you might try to live, your body will inevitably absorb toxins from the air, water, food, or direct contact. A buildup of toxins can really make you feel sluggish! Chiropractic adjustments release these toxins, so your body can rid itself of them.

And last, but not least, let’s focus on balance for a moment. If you have ever tried to carry a large gas can, you probably remember trying to shift that weight from side to side. How awkward it felt and out of balance it made you feel. Remember how tired you were afterwards? While being out of alignment doesn’t carry the same weight, obviously, it does cause you to be out of balance, making everything you do take more energy. When the natural balance of your body is restored, you will have more energy available for work and for pleasure.

Once you are no longer experiencing these types of symptoms or problems, and you are free from toxins, your energy levels should soar!

A Word about Chiropractic

Does chiropractic work? Absolutely! Can chiropractic give you more energy? While chiropractors don’t actually treat a “lack of energy”, however, what they will do is to look for the root cause of your problem or concern and address that issue.  Many people have discovered that after receiving chiropractic care for other concerns, one of the nicest side effects was an increase in energy.

How long do chiropractic adjustments last? This will vary tremendously from person to person. You can help your body stay in balance by being certain that you are already working with your body and not against it. Get plenty of sleep, stay hydrated, prioritize your schedule so you get at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days, and eat a healthy, most plant-based diet. No amount of health care, chiropractic adjustments, or pills can make up for an unhealthy lifestyle.

Whether you want to have more energy, so you can fly through your daily tasks or if you are experiencing pain or even if you just want your questions answered about how chiropractic care can help you, take a moment to make an appointment with your local chiropractor.
