1) Assess Daily Activities

Break apart your average 24 hour period (so from Monday morning to Tuesday morning) from the perspective of your spine. What kinds of activities are you doing that aren’t so back-friendly?

2) Addressing Proper Posture

If the back pain is concentrated in the lumbar region, often you can go a long ways towards fixing the issue by addressing posture. Look at another 24 hour period in your life from the perspective of proper standing, walking and especially sitting and sleeping postures.

3) Avoid Prolonged Sitting

Hey, it’s cold in Alaska and there’s lots of indoor time! Or, maybe you’ve got a desk job or an addiction to online computer gaming? Maybe you work from home? Regardless of your posture, please remember to stand up, stretch, and take a sitting-break every 20 minutes or so.

4) Stay Active & Build Muscles

Stay active and learn about back-strengthening exercises that can treat Back Pain. We can help, or you can do your own research, but be sure to avoid certain movements that may make your back pain more severe: weighted twisting, repeated bending, or sudden core movements.

5) Check Spinal Alignment

6) Avoid certain movements

When your back is in pain it is important to recognize which movements increase the pain and be sure to avoid these. In most cases, excessive bending and twisting of the back will increase the amount of pain you feel. Make sure you try to keep these movements to a minimum.
